Fitness Pilates

Once called the best kept secret of the rich and famous and beautiful, Pilates is now a household name. Fitness Pilates was created in 2002 as a fitness/group exercise version of traditional Pilates delivered in a contemporary style. It began as a workshop called Equilibrium which fused Pilates with Stretch and Yoga and transformed into Fitness Pilates in 2002/2003.

Fitness Pilates is exercise and movement science but has its roots firmly in traditional Pilates and Controlology and is now taught in the UK, Europe, America and Australia. It is a group exercise class that focuses on the body as a human kinetic chain. By applying the fundamental Pilates technique and exercises Fitness Pilates aims to offset musculoskeletal imbalances, improve posture, movement quality, mobility, flexibility,  mental cognition, core strength, form and function in a non-intimidating, highly accessible and enjoyable way.

Fitness Pilates Attacks the roots of bad posture by toning little used muscle groups in the abdomen, torso, upper and lower back, while incorporating slow breathing technique to energise the body. The moves are also designed to work the muscles of the whole body (abdominals, lower back, upper back, thighs, buttocks, calves, arms and shoulders to gently lengthen them. The result is a body that is properly aligned and at less injury. It is a no-impact class suitable for men (look out for Men on Mats class) and women, all levels and abilities, with a beginners class due to start Jan 2019 Its a good way to relax and unwind and also a good weight bearing exercise class, so helps to prevent osteoporosis.

The aim of Fitness Pilates is to identify basic postural  and movement imbalances and through Pilates based exercises and breath.
